Center City Law Fair Features Free Legal Advice, Kid I.D.

Philadelphia-area residents can receive free legal advice and picture identifications for their children during a Law Fair at the Gallery Mall in Center City Philadelphia, on Wednesday, May 1 from noon to 2 p.m. The Law Fair is part of the week-long celebration of Law Week 2002, sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association. May 1 is recognized annually, across the country, as Law Day.

Volunteer lawyers will offer free and confidential legal advice to shoppers in the Center Court of the Gallery Mall. Shoppers can receive answers to legal questions on a broad range of topics, including landlord/tenant law, divorce and child custody matters, wills and estate planning, real estate law and employment law.

In addition to the free legal advice available to the public, the Bar Association will also be providing free kids' identifications cards for parents who bring their young children to the Law Fair, as part of the Kid ID Program. Photos will be taken of the children, at no charge, and parents can use the ID cards in the event of an emergency.

Law Week 2002, which runs Monday, April 29 through Saturday, May 4, is one of the most ambitious public outreach efforts of its type in the nation, reaching out to thousands of citizens. Throughout the week, volunteer Philadelphia lawyers will span out across the city, visiting with children in classrooms, welcoming new American citizens, inviting inner-city students into their offices, and much more. All of the Law Week activities are under the direction of Association Chancellor-Elect Audrey C. Talley and are coordinated by YLD Law Week co-chairs Melissa A. Schwartz and Kim R. Jessum.
