Philadelphia Students Will Play "Lawyer for a Day" Tomorrow by Shadowing Attorneys

Students and attorneys will gather  Friday, May 3, in celebration of Law Week and participate in the annual Lawyer for a Day program, sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia Bar Association. Volunteer attorneys will pair with Philadelphia high school students, escort them to various court houses throughout the city to observe court proceedings and speak with judges, explain the workings of the Philadelphia justice system, and answer their questions about careers in the legal field.

The students will meet the lawyers at the Philadelphia Bar Association, 1101 Market St., in the 11th floor Conference Center, at 8:30 a.m. The students will then be paired-off with the lawyers and sent to one of the various courthouses which have opened its courtroom doors to the students and the learning process. All participants are invited back to the Association's Conference Center at noon for a concluding lunch program, during which students will recount their experiences and hear speeches from World B. Free of the Philadelphia 76ers and various other Bar Association representatives.

Philadelphia Mayor John Street is expected to be on-hand at the luncheon to issue a special Proclamation in honor of Law Week 2002.

Law Week 2002, sponsored by the Philadelphia Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division, began on Monday, April 29 and runs through Saturday, May 4. Throughout the week, volunteer Philadelphia lawyers are reaching out to thousands of citizens with a host of free events and services, including free legal advice, visits with children in city classrooms and participation in a South Philadelphia Habitat for Humanity project.
