Jerome J. Shestack to Receive 2006 ABA Medal

The Philadelphia Bar Association congratulates Jerome J. Shestack, who recently retired from partnership of Wolf Block Schorr & Solis-Cohen law firm in Philadelphia, on his selection as the 2006 American Bar Association Medal recipient.

The ABA Medal is the highest recognition the association confers. Past winners include U.S. Supreme Court Justices Thurgood Marshall, William J. Brennan Jr. and Sandra Day O'Connor; Erwin Griswold, former Harvard Law School dean and solicitor general of the United States; and George Wharton Pepper, a former U.S. senator and founder of the Pepper Hamilton law firm in Philadelphia.

The award honors people who have "rendered exceptionally distinguished service to the cause of American jurisprudence."

Shestack will be presented with the award Aug. 7, during the meeting of the ABA's House of Delegates at the 2006 ABA meeting in Honolulu. Shestack was president of the ABA in 1997-98.

Shestack, a World War II veteran, graduated from Harvard Law School in 1949 and taught at two law schools before becoming first deputy city solicitor in Philadelphia. In 1955, he joined Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis in Philadelphia and moved in 1991 to Wolf Block. His full bio is available on the Wolf Block web site.
