Dec. 17 Chancellor's Forum: Champions of Negotiation

Event Postponed

speaker photos Professional boxing is one of the most popular sports in the world, creating superstars such as Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier and Larry Holmes. But, who really understands what happens behind-the-scenes, negotiating contracts and compensation, licensing for match footage, and how a match will be promoted on television?

Join us on Wednesday, Dec. 17 as we welcome retired world heavyweight champion Larry Holmes, his boxing career attorney Judge Jack Panella, and Judge Jacquelyn Frazier-Lyde, a retired boxer and daughter of Joe Frazier, as they discuss their careers and experiences negotiating contracts and the many provisions of a match.

Judge Jack Anthony Panella was elected statewide to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania in 2003, and sworn into office as an appellate judge on January 9, 2004. From 1982 to 1991, Judge Panella maintained his law practice as a sole practitioner; his clients included Larry Holmes and the late Al Loquasto, a former professional race car driver champion.

Larry Holmes, known as "The Easton Assassin," was the heavyweight champion of the world from 1978 to 1985, with a professional record of 69 wins, six losses and 44 knockouts. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame on June 8, 2008, and is second only to Joe Louis for the longest title run in heavyweight history.

Judge Jacquelyn Frazier-Lyde was elected Municipal Court Judge in 2007. She earned her BA in Justice from American University and JD from Villanova University School of Law. On the second floor of Joe Frazier's Gym, for approximately 17 years, she practiced law and served as in-house counsel for Smokin' Joe Frazier Inc. Judge Frazier-Lyde also is a professional and amateur Sports Hall of Famer. She is a former five-time champion boxer who began boxing at age 37. She has won world championships in three different weight classes, with nine knockouts. Judge Frazier-Lyde and her father, former world heavyweight champion Smokin' Joe Frazier, are the first father and daughter world champions in world boxing history.
