Deadline Oct. 9: Honorable Louis H. Pollak Award

The Public Interest Section created this award to honor the memory of Judge Louis H. Pollak, a distinguished jurist who cared deeply about public service and access to justice and who gave time and effort to supporting the public interest legal community through his work with the Bar Association. The award does not come with any monetary amount, but rather serves as recognition of both the legacy of leadership Judge Pollak left behind and of the service of the awardee.

This award will be given annually to a Judge who embodies Judge Pollak’s commitment to public service. Nominations may be self-nominations, made by members of the judiciary, or made by members of the public interest community.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, Oct. 9.

The award committee will look for a jurist who, in efforts to increase access to justice or in dedication to the public interest legal community has demonstrated:

  • A single achievement (excluding any decision in any matter before the jurist)
  • Sustained commitment
  • Or efforts which inspire others

Judges of any level, whether active or retired will be considered. The committee will make efforts to, whenever possible, alternate between federal and state judges each year.

Nominations should be sent either by mail to: Dawn Petit, Philadelphia Bar Association, 1101 Market Street, 11th Floor, Philadelphia, Pa. 19107; or email to
