Philadelphia Bar Association Issues Statement Condemning Comments Made By Professor Amy Wax
Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Wesley R. Payne, IV, released the following statement condemning comments made by Amy Wax, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School:
“In his statement, Penn Law Dean Theodore Ruger noted that the latest racist comments by Amy Wax stand completely at odds with the policies and ethos of his institution,” Payne said. “Her comments are equally incongruous with the Philadelphia Bar Association’s mission and what we believe should be the mission of the legal profession as a whole: To foster understanding of, involvement in and access to the justice system, including the need to recognize and correct the inequalities inherent within that system and society-at-large.
“We stand with Dean Ruger in saying we cannot and will not ignore the harm the comments have caused to our community, and we will take them as a reminder of the important work we all must do to continue to advance diversity, equity and inclusion within our profession and more widely.”
