In Memoriam: Marvin Comisky

WHEREAS, Marvin Comisky earned his law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1941;

WHEREAS, in 1959 Marvin Comisky co-founded Blank Rome Comisky & McCauley, which has grown to become one of Philadelphia’s largest and most prestigious law firms, and served as the firm’s litigation department chair, managing partner, chairman and chairman emeritus;

WHEREAS, Marvin Comisky worked tirelessly to end religious, racial and ethnic discrimination in hiring in the legal profession and in the community at large;

WHEREAS, Marvin Comisky’s efforts broke down barriers and made available opportunities for countless individuals to practice law and service clients in divergent areas of law;

WHEREAS, Marvin Comisky was a leader in the effort to make legal services available to the poor;

WHEREAS, Marvin Comisky served the Philadelphia legal profession and the residents of the Philadelphia area with vigor, integrity and dedication as Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association in 1965;

WHEREAS, Marvin Comisky served the Pennsylvania legal profession and the residents of this Commonwealth with equal vigor, integrity and dedication as President of the Pennsylvania Bar Association in 1970;

WHEREAS, Marvin Comisky brought his leadership and talent to the national level through his service in the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association;

WHEREAS, Marvin Comisky served as a mentor and example to many lawyers in Philadelphia over a long and highly successful career;

WHEREAS, Marvin Comisky, through his selfless commitment to equality and access to justice and his exemplary dedication to the legal profession and the public, was the embodiment of the Philadelphia Lawyer.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Philadelphia Bar Association adopts this memorial resolution in recognition of the character, contributions and achievements of Marvin Comisky, and extends its heartfelt condolences to his wife, Goldye, and their children, Ian, Matthew and Hope on the passing of a beloved and respected colleague, devoted family member and faithful friend.
