Philadelphia Tax Primer: Your Guide to City Taxes
Hosted by the Tax Section
This ½-day CLE Primer will be split into four panel presentations covering important Philadelphia City taxes that businesses, individuals, and practitioners should know. The first panel presentation, Authority to Tax, will address the statutory authority for the City’s taxes, as well as the related topic of limitations on that authority (i.e. preemption, the Pennsylvania Uniformity Clause, etc.). Next, the Wage and Net Profits Tax presentation will examine some of the Philadelphia taxes that individuals and pass-through entities should consider. Panelists will provide recent case law updates and guidance related to the aforementioned city taxes. The third panel will review the recent changes to Business Income and Receipts Tax (BIRT), identifying information about this important business tax and providing updates that you and your clients need to know. The final panel will address the basics of the Use and Occupancy Tax, including the authority for its imposition and the calculation. Panelists will also discuss the application of the tax to particular types of taxpayers, and procedures to appeal assessments of Use and Occupancy Tax.
This comprehensive CLE Primer is a “CAN’T MISS” for any tax practitioners in Philadelphia.
