Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Wesley R. Payne IV released a statement in tribute to Pennsylvania Supreme Court Chief Justice Max Baer, who died overnight on September 30. Chief Justice Baer was first elected to the Supreme Court in 2003 and has been Chief Justice since 2021. He was set to retire at the end of this year, after he reached the Court’s mandatory retirement age of 75.

Wade over the summer, and to the recent rise in gun violence, including a mass shooting on South Street in Philadelphia and the killing of a teenage football player in Roxborough, the Board of Governors passed resolutions at its September meeting urging a stronger government response.
