Philadelphia Bar Association Chancellor Ezra Wohlgelernter released the following statement in reaction to the aliens.gov website recently launched by the White House. At first glance, the website appears to be about extraterrestrials, but tracks arrests by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, using inflammatory language to talk about immigrants.

Throughout history, governments and political movements have sought to justify harsh treatment of vulnerable populations by first changing the language used to describe them. When human beings are reduced to labels, stereotypes, or objects, it becomes easier to disregard their rights, dignity, and individuality.”

The Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg “Pursuit of Justice” Legal Writing Competition is open to full-time and part-time law students who completed their second or third year of study by the end of the 2025-2026 academic year at Philadelphia-area law schools.

The LGBTQ+ Rights Committee is accepting nominations for the Cheryl Ingram Advocate for Justice Award, which is awarded annually to any active Philadelphia Bar Association member who has made substantive contributions to the LGBTQ+ community in Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Bar Association has joined the Barristers’ Association of Philadelphia and the Howard University School of Law in their amicus brief urging the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold a lower court’s preliminary injunction ordering the restoration of panels and videos depicting the history of slavery at the President’s House site on Independence Mall.
